Novel combo for mild-moderate depression + fall recipe

How are you? I’ll be honest that I feel myself getting stretched. I’m hearing this in practice too. For us west coasters, the weeks of smoke felt like another pull and challenge in an already tough year. I’ve found myself ending my days a little earlier and going back to simple meals. I know that not everyone finds solace in the table, but I hope the recipe below will add some nourishment for you. I also want to share about a new study showing that the combination of SAMe + a probiotic is effective for mild-moderate depression.

Shakshuka
I’ve shared before that late September-early October is one of my most favorite times of year. Cooler nights. A golden glow. And shakshuka. I whizzed tomatoes from the garden in the food processor and used that in place of the canned tomatoes. Having grown multiple pounds of tomatoes without blossom end rot this season may be one of my biggest accomplishments in 2020 😉.

Recipe is here.

This combo for depression
Italian researchers have found that supplementing with 200 mg of SAMe and the probiotic strain L. plantarum has clinically significant effects on mild to moderate depression.

They split a group of 90 participants aged from 18-60 and gave one group the SAMe-probiotic combo and the other group placebo. They found that the supplemented group had a quick response and showed improvement by week 2. The participants were followed for a total of 6 weeks.

Worth noting, too, is that the combination had no reported side effects and the effect was independent of severity of symptoms. For the most part, conventional antidepressants aren’t effective for borderline or mild depression, so this gives a viable option to intervene in mild to moderate cases.
