Answers for women in perimenopause and menopause
THRIVE THROUGH MIDLIFE AND BEYOND
Work with a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), to get comprehensive care through this hormonal transition so that you can jump off the hormonal rollercoaster and live to your fullest.
While natural, this menopausal transition can leave you feeling lost and frustrated.
The transition through menopause is a natural milestone. Yet, it’s been a blindspot in medicine.
The worry of not knowing what’s normal, how long these symptoms will last or if there are “what ifs“ you should know about, is draining.
Not to mention the physical symptoms—hot flashes, mood challenges, insomnia, to name a few—can be wildly disruptive.
In depth, whole person care can help you feel more balanced and equipped to thrive
What is perimenopause and/or menopause?
Perimenopause means “around menopause” and describes the cycle changes that lead up to a woman’s final menstrual period. Once a woman has gone 12 months without a period, she’s considered to be in menopause. During this time ovarian function is declining and estrogen and progesterone levels are dropping. It’s this change in the hormonal picture that causes symptoms.
Menopause is a natural part of aging; yet, you don’t have to go at it alone and it can be a prime time to be preventative, so that the decades ahead are active and healthy.
Common symptoms of perimenopause
The years leading up the last menstrual period are typically the most symptomatic. Naturopathic medicine uses a varied toolbox personalized to each person. Tools include nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, mind-body modalities and menopause hormone therapy (MHT).
Hot flashes
Hot flashes and night sweats are the most common symptoms associated with menopause.
Mood changes
This hormonal transition is a window of vulnerability where past mood issues may re-emerge or you may find new challenges around depression and/or anxiety.
Brain fog
While we expect brain fog to resolve, it’s also a great opportunity to assess your personal risk of dementia.
Sleep challenges
Independent of night sweats, sleep can become challenging and poor sleep will have effects on many other systems.
Loss of bone density
A woman’s greatest risk for osteoporosis is menopause, so we assess risk and are targeted with nutrition and exercise to make a fracture prevention plan.
Vaginal dryness
The loss of estrogen has a direct effect on vaginal tissue and can result in dryness, painful intercourse or recurrent UTIs.
